The aim of this project is to drive forwards sustainable solutions for the production of biofuels and bio-products from renewable bio-resources, predominately through biological conversion Biofuels are one of the many different types of products that can be made in biorefineries. There is a great need for society to decrease our reliance on fossil fuels (from, for example, coal or natural gas) in order to reduce the quantity of carbon dioxide emitted into the atmosphere, and the use of biofuels is one opportunity to do so. Unlike fossil fuels, which form deep below the earth’s surface over hundreds of millions of years, biofuels are a renewable energy source that can be produced as quickly as plants can be grown, harvested and processed in a refinery. LU Biofuelsis a dedicated cross-disciplinary effort made by Lund University to bring together researchers and collaborating partners in a dynamic network.
